We sat down with Chang Hwang Yi, the new manager of Yu’s Produce to learn more about his business and how he got into produce. Please read the interview below to learn more.
- How and when did you get started in the produce business? It is a family business for me. I worked with my dad as a manager in 1995 and later, in 2005, opened my own store in Bristol, PA.
- Who is involved in running your business? My whole family helps me to run the business.
- What are your most popular items? All berries, juices, and salads green are very popular.
- Are you working on releasing any new items? In the spring, I will be carrying flowers and plants that are grown locally in Lancaster County.
- What do you find to be the most challenging part of your business? I work long hours; I start at 2 am and finish at 7 pm.
- What gets you up in the morning? My family.
- What excites you to come to work? I am excited by the idea of growing the business.
- If you could say one thing to your customers, what would it be? I want my customers to know that I personally go to the farm and pick up the produce. I inspect all of it myself.
- Do you have any tips for people trying to prepare produce at home? Don’t wash your produce until you are ready to use it.
- What do you like to do for fun? I enjoy playing with my two daughters who are four and two years old.
- What are some fun facts about yourself? I’m the youngest of five siblings. Also, when I was young, I wanted to be an MMA fighter. I have a second degree black belt in taekwondo and judo.
